The name ANGSA is the Malay word for Swan, inspired by Athena SWAN and its mission of advancing gender equity, diversity and inclusion.
Established in 2016, and previously known as Women in Higher Education (WiHE), the group’s main objective is to promote interaction among female academics in Australia and to provide a forum for learning, support, and networking.
Over the past years, the group has met monthly to discuss challenges and opportunities in higher education. Guest speakers, successful and established women in higher education, attend the monthly event. Past guests include established female researchers and professors from the Australian Catholic University, Grattan Institute, KPMG, Monash College, Monash University and the University of Melbourne. In 2020, due to the challenges of COVID-19, fortnightly virtual meetings were held to provide a forum for female academics to celebrate milestones and share challenges.
